On Wednesday, October 2nd, trailing the streets around the school, clubs, and organizations came together on their floats to show off their Wildcat pride. Being two months into the school year, and right before homecoming, this year’s Rock the Block parade was filled with spirit.
While some sports like football, tennis, and water polo have already started their respective seasons, other sports, such as basketball and baseball, have not yet begun. But all displayed their sportsmanship at the parade and were pumped for the upcoming season.
Jolina Rodriguez, a junior participant of the track team, gave out candy to the crowd and was rewarded with smiling faces in return. “My favorite part of Rock the Block was giving the kids candy,” Rodriguez said. “And seeing them smile.”
With a big event like this, challenges are bound to happen along the way.
“I was a part of the homecoming court- the senior court for homecoming queen,” Ariana Garcia said. “It was really difficult to stand on the convertible while the parade was happening.” It was her first time experiencing being a part of the parade, and she overcame the challenge, while having a great time.
On the Wildcat girls basketball team’s superhero themed float, senior and team captain Dasia Hyams was able to show off her leadership skills. “Planning the float was a tad challenging, but was worth it seeing all the kids and families waving at us,” Dasia Hyams said.
After the parade, students, staff, and community members gathered to the stadium for a pep-rally led by Mr. Mike Crocker, the cheerleaders, and the band.
