Tomball Memorial’s varsity boys basketball team is pulling it together this season, taking the victory over Tomball with a score of 72-51. The team’s exceptional performance places them 3rd in district with an overall record of 17-13.
Head coach Bailey gives insight on the teams play in the season so far. “I believe our performance this season was inconsistent at the beginning of the year,” Bailey said. “In early December, it started to come together for us at the Grand Oaks tournament, and since then, we have gone 17-13 and are playing much better team basketball.”
Although the team is on a roll, the boys have no plans of slowing down and want to finish the season off strong. “I’m looking forward to winning more games, coming out on top, and ultimately winning the district title,” Senior Matthew Zanoria said.
A large part of the teams success this season is due to the hardworking coaches who strive to instill life-long skills into the players. Such skills as teamwork, resilience, trust, and desire prove to be useful both on and off the court. “Besides just the physical tools of a stronger body and mind, I want my players to develop the skills that set themselves up for a successful life and career,” Assistant coach John Varnell said. “They are able to conquer because of who they are. They are valuable young men and stand for something greater than themselves.”
With last week’s win against Tomball the boys continue to put their skills to the test with their exceptional teamwork and strategy. “We all have our own personalities which mesh well with one another and that is why we’re doing well this year,” junior Jacob Rosner said.
The boys and coaches dedication is what sets the team apart from the rest and is what will hopefully bring them to win the playoffs.
