The new football season has finally arrived! Following an excellent previous season, the football team has been training and giving their all to ensure that they keep the tradition up. However, the team had a rough start to the season, as the opening game on August 30th against Humble resulted in a loss. Despite the recent drawback, the Wildcats swiftly recovered with an absolute triumph against Cy-Creek on September 5th, with a final score of 52-27.
With already two varsity games under their belt, the football team seems to be on a promising path for the remainder of the 2024 season. This is especially great news for seniors on the team, as it will be their last time representing TMHS on the field.
Senior, Rome Gabbert, a kicker on the varsity team, is proud of the team’s skill and is certain of TMHS’s ensuing success.
“I’m feeling great coming into my senior season. I’ve worked incredibly hard all off season to prepare, and I have a good feeling about this season,” Gabbert said. “I think the first game was just a way to dip our toes in the water. We have a lot of guys playing on varsity for the first time, so now that first game is out of the way, we should be good to go for the rest of the season.”
According to the majority of players, the future of the football team this season is a bright one.
Senior varsity quarterback, Talan Moore, along with his fellow teammates, is prepared to persevere through the many upcoming obstacles in the weeks to come.
“We’re definitely going to win a lot of our games this season, and we’re also going to have some tough challenges, but it’s looking good,” Moore said. “We have a good football team. We’re a little undersized, but we definitely got the heart.”
The football team is notorious for the comradery amongst its players; thanks to the solid foundation the team has cultivated, the football team has grown to resemble a family.
Randall Russ, senior varsity wide receiver, has developed a close bond with the rest of the football team, as it is common for many players to view their fellow teammates as family.
“It’s the best thing ever. The vibe is the best knowing that you got your brothers with you going to war, and that they always got your back is the best feeling ever. They’re all my brothers for life,” Russ said. “I feel like we’re going to have a great season and play the best football of our lives. I feel like we got to all play for our big bro, Yeti. Give him our all in every game.”
TMHS has fostered an environment that allows its students to connect with each other and harbor close friendships that last years.
