Just recently, the NAWIC Education Foundation held the local area 2023/2024 NEF Design Drafting Competition, as well as its following competition, the Regional Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Louisiana Competition. TMHS, along with two local area schools, submitted seven proposals for the local area competition. Out of all the submissions, junior Logan Cook’s ultimately triumphed in the local competition, advanced to regionals, and won, which was officially announced on April 13th.
Next up for Cook is the national final, which will take place over the summer. This series of competitions ultimate goal is to encourage and recognize high school students ability to utilize their knowledge, accuracy, creativity, and originality through their respective innovations and designs.
Cook feels accomplished for participating in this exceptional educational opportunity, which includes the Design Drafting Competition and regional competitions. “I came all that way to compete,” Cook said. “It makes me very proud.” Cook holds this competition in high regard, seeing it as an incredible experience for students interested in the construction industry.
Cook shares a word of advice for any future students interested in participating in events such as these. “Don’t give up,” Cook said. “Keep your mind on it, and you can do it.”
