On Friday, October 8th, both of TISD’s sister schools, Tomball High School and Tomball Memorial High School, joined together to celebrate the district’s much-anticipated annual Patriotic Show. Being a Tomball tradition for 43 years, the Patriotic Show serves as a homage to the many veterans who paved the way for our nation, paying them the Tomball community’s utmost gratitude and respect for their dedication to their country.
A hallmark of the Patriotic Show is the friendly rivalry between Tomball Memorial and Tomball High, primarily featured through the football game played between the two schools. Along with the football game, the Patriotic Show features a half-time show performed by both schools, a skydiving presentation, as well as a fireworks display. It is for these reasons that the Patriotic Show has been a staple in the community for veterans, families, and students alike for years.
Delonzo Marshall, a senior varsity defensive back, witnessed firsthand how influential the Patriotic Show is to the residents of Tomball. “I liked the fireworks, and the helicopter was cool,” Marshall said. “Everybody was cheering; I saw all my friends’ parents; it was cool.” Marshall, along with fellow teammates, all noticed the unwavering commitment and cheer exhibited by their dedicated friends and family.
Senior varsity quarterback, Aiden Martin, understood exactly why the Patriotic Show is so iconic to the Tomball legacy. “It was kind of electric. Our student section was very loud, and it was great.” Martin said. “I think the show is a pretty cool experience for high school athletes; not everyone gets to do this, and we’re very fortunate to have a football stadium and fans that come support us.” For families, veterans, staff members, and students, such as Martin, the Patriotic Show symbolizes Tomball’s perseverance through the countless challenges and obstacles the town has faced in order to get where it is today.
Football coach Brady Bonnin leaves from his first experience of the Patriotic Show with a sense of unity and sportsmanship. “It’s a great experience for everybody,” Bonnin said. “It’s a good way for the whole community of Tomball to come together and support both sides.” The Patriotic Show undoubtedly creates an uplifting and ecstatic atmosphere completely unique to the Tomball area and for all who attend. It is a treat to have the privilege to attend such a monumental event that only takes place once a year, so take advantage of any opportunity to show off your Wildcat pride! Remember to B.E.C.A.T.S. and make Tomball proud!
Thank you to all the veterans for your service!
